Build Specifications

Packaging

When you receive your Breeze 4K, you should expect the following to come in the box:

  • The Breeze 4K by Yuneec
  • Propeller protections for indoor flight
  • Two 3S 11.1 V 1150 mAh LiPo batteries
  • 5” protective carrying case

The newly released goggles and controller are both purchased separately and not with the actual kit itself, so, if you are planning on feeling the adrenalin rush from first person view flying, we have great goggles suggestions, which will allow you to find the most suitable ones for you, right from the start. As for the controller, you have to know that it was created and designed for better control when flying and gives users the option to have a more hands-on approach when piloting this model.

Design & Durability

The UAV by Yuneec is designed from plastic, is white in color, and has the dimensions of 196x65x196mm and weighs approximately 385g.

Most would think that a drone crafted from plastic is not durable enough for outdoor use, but the Breeze 4K is made and designed with features that utilize and showcase the power of outdoor video through portrait photos, or “selfies”, and the recording of activities with friends, family, or solely by yourself.

Yunnec Breeze 4K design and camera

Others have tested the durability of this drone to see how many beatings it could actually handle, and the results came out in durability’s favor. It’s designed to basically retract the propellers slightly to minimize the impact damage and prevent them from breaking and snapping altogether.

Though at first glance and touch, the gadget does not feel all that durable and actually very fragile, it’s anything but! Drones that are composed of nearly all plastic, or plastic entirely, are generally overlooked because of it, but the Breeze 4K can hold its own where durability is concerned.

Camera

The Breeze 4K comes with an incredible camera that works through multiple features to get the perfect shot every time. As the name implies, the camera’s max resolution is 4K and 30 frames per second. It’s also able to shoot 720p at 120 frames per second, as well as 1080p at 60 frames per second, while still being able to shoot 13 megapixel still shots.

The camera itself is able to swivel both up and down when commanded to do so or automatically, which depends on the feature that is being used, and has a total field of view of 117 degrees.

The only downside is that you are not able to use the stabilization feature when you are shooting in 4K, and only works during shooting in 720p or 1080p.

Battery & Flight Time

The two 3S 11.1 V 1150 mAh LiPo batteries are good for approximately 12 to 15 minutes of flying time, which is very short for such a price. However, because the drone is designed for selfies and short videos, the battery life is somewhat to be expected.

The battery itself takes up to 40 minutes to properly regain a full charge, which is actually a bonus when you think about how high maintenance other models batteries can be in terms of charging times.

Controller

The controller for this model adds a different handle on piloting and flying the drone. Until recently, the experience was through a smartphone, but thanks to the controller, the user can gain more control with the controller that works by attaching to your smartphone.

From there you can guide and fly the Breeze 4K using the joysticks, capture photos, record videos and more, all at the touch of a few buttons.

Yuneec Breeze 4K Controller

The controller itself looks like something that would be used on a gaming console, and has a striking resemblance to a PlayStation controller.

It connects to your smartphone through Bluetooth to accurately control the drone with the buttons and the joysticks, and is compatible with the application, Breeze Cam Mobile, on i0S 8.0 and above, as well as Android 4.4 and above.

What’s more interesting is that, once connected, your smartphone will become the display screen for a first-person perspective and can be used in the Normal or FPV mode. The flying distance with the controller is 100m and a 600mA battery is required.

Overall, the general specs when flying and controlling the Breeze 4K are as follows:

  • Able to fly in both FPV and Normal, with a new perspective on FPV Flight Mode
  • Able to fly and control the drone with physical controls that are hands-on
  • 720p FPV constant image transmission

The newly released controller can be found online for a relatively cheap price tag, and can be purchased from Amazon or Yuneec.

Flight Performance

The UAV is somewhat limited when it comes to its flight performance, but mostly because it has a max horizontal speed of only 5m per second, which equals to about 11mph. It can only ascend at approximately 1m per second, which equals to 2.2mph, and has a 100m, 0.06 mile, maximum range.

Flight Performance

However, Yuneec specifically designed the Breeze for this to occur, mostly because it is not an exploring, adventurous drone that you let go for long distances, but one that is to record and take pictures at a medium distance at most. It’s also designed this way, in terms of flight performance, for a reduced risk of losing it or crashing completely.

Though the controller was not released until recently, the application worked just fine. The response times are immediate and work quite well, and is one of the best drone applications available for this model specifically, and others as well.

However, the experience of flying performance is not one that will be a great one just by using the application alone, which can actually cause problems, which is why the controller was created.

Overall, the flight experience of a drone is quite an exceptional one, though there are a few bumps. One feature that helps the flight performance is the Follow Me mode, where the drone will track your Bluetooth signature and keep you within the frame.

Value for Money & Guarantee

When it comes to overall value of this model, it’s definitely a good one, but it does have room for improvement. In total it costs $500, $399.99 on site, without including shipping and handling, which is why the total cost is rounded to $500, which is a pretty good deal for what you are getting.

Yuneec Breeze 4K value for money

However, the controller and the flight goggles do not come with the purchased Breeze 4K drone, so one does have to wonder if it’s actually worth it. Separately, the controller on its own will run you up to $80 with shipping, but if you’re willing to use the application on your phone to work the drone alone, then you are definitely gaining a great value for your money.

There is no listed guarantee on Yuneec’s website at this time, but in the future, it would be worth checking out to see what is available, or contacting them personally to make an inquiry on it.

Unique Features

The best part about the Breeze 4K would definitely have to be all of the unique features that are incorporated with it. The following are the many unique features that one can take full advantage of during use:

  • Selfie Mode – For the perfect aerial selfie each time, where the Breeze 4K positions itself purposely to get the best shot
  • Pilot Mode – For more control through using manual controls
  • Orbit Mode – If you are standing still and want the drone to orbit around an object or yourself, this mode is perfect for standstill moments
  • Journey Mode – The drone will calculate the trajectory for you, fly away to capture whatever it is you want it to get, and then fly straight back to you.
  • Follow Me Mode – The drone will do the work for you by following you based on your GPS through Bluetooth to follow you and capture everything based on your movement
  • Indoor Positioning System – The drone can hold itself inside to ensure no accidents occur through Optical flow, which works through infrared, IPS sensors, and GPS

You can also instantly share and post your videos and photos directly to Facebook, transfer all of your files onto your computer or smart device by following simple instructions, and use Auto Return To Home and Auto Landing, as well

. The propellers are also a feature in themselves too, considering they will fold as soon as the drone comes into contact with anything for protection purposes.

Check out above video to see an example on how the Orbit feature works.

Similar Models or Main Competitors

The DJI Mavic Pro

The DJI Mavic Pro, is also the same style drone, being one that also uses a 4K camera and is designed for selfies. It even has the additional but sold separately, goggles for flight.

Like the Breeze 4K, the DJI Mavic Pro also incorporates precision hover as one of the main features, which could be compared to the Orbit Mode offered by Yuneec’s model.

However, the Mavic model does fly a lot longer than the Yuneec model, as it flies approximately 27 minutes compared to the Breeze’s 12, which is a major difference in flight times and overall flying value.

The DJI Mavic Pro

There is a similarity when it comes to crashing resistance, for both models and brands, being that they both have a mechanism that helps them to receive minimal damage in the case where a crash is inevitable and does occur.

The Mavic model can sense any obstacles from up to 15ml, 49ft, a way to ensure that it can bypass or brake in time to hover and reduce collisions. The Yuneec model has similar senses and will retract the propellers in such a way that will help ensure minimal damage, if any, occurs.

Both models have a Return to Home mode, that will activate in similar circumstances, such as going out of range and losing Wi-Fi, where it will automatically go back to your last online location to find you.

They also have Bluetooth GPS tracking, can fly further past you for better shots through the use of the remote controller, and are able to take photos from certain altitudes.

The Parrot Beebop 2

The Parrot BEBOP 2 is also a model with similarities to the Yuneec drone, but also has differences that are much better when compared. For example, the BEBOP 2 has a battery life of up to 25 minutes but does not have as many useful features as the Yuneec Breeze.

The BEBOP 2 features a full HD camera of 1080p, which is less when compared to the 4K capabilities of the Breeze, but it does work through an application like the other.

The Parrot Beebop 2

Furthermore, the BEBOP 2 also has Bluetooth GPS and visual tracking capabilities and a controller and set of goggles, but they all have to be purchased separately, including the capabilities that were just mentioned prior, which can be a bit of an annoyance for some. The last similarity is that they can both fly safely indoors and outdoors without issues, which is ideal for all users. If this model sounds interesting to you, you can check out the thorough review of the Parrot Bebop 2 model and get familiar with all it has to offer.

On the other hand, if you are sure that this is the model for you, you can buy it from Amazon.

The DJI Phantom 3

The DJI Phantom 3 Standard is above all the most similar to the Breeze 4K, and is packed with features that prove this claim. The Automatic Flight Assistant works through GPS and is almost identical to the Return to Home feature offered by Yuneec, which works through your Bluetooth and GPS coordinates on your smartphone.

It also features a controller, too! The Auto Hover feature is much like the Orbit Mode feature, as well as the Live GPS feature, which is also identical to the Follow Me Mode offered by the comparable model.

DJI Phantom 3 Standard

The battery life of the Phantom 3 Standard is much better than the Yuneec UAV, however, it trumps the Breeze’s 12 minutes with its own 25-minute battery life. It even has LED lights underneath the propellers to show you how full or near empty the charge is, which will help you to know when you need to bring it back to you. If you are in this hobby for long, then you probably know everything there is about the famous Phantom 3, but, if you think that you can find out something new about this model, you can check out our review of the entire Phantom 3 series.

However, it actually does it on its own, because once the battery is near empty, the Phantom drone will return to you automatically.

If you like this product you can find and purchase it on Amazon.

Overview

The drone is a great starter drone for those who want something that is ready to fly, had some great features, and those who just want a simple yet elegant drone to play around with.

Pros:

  • It’s one of the easiest drones to fly
  • Compact and lightweight size makes it completely portable and easy to carry around, especially because of the protective case
  • The stills and video are generally of good quality
  • A great drone to use for those who have no knowledge to an extensive level of how they work and what they actually need

Cons:

  • Shaky images and videos at times because of the lack of image stabilization through 4K video
  • The replacement of the rotor can prove to be a difficult task
  • There is limited range when it comes to pre-programmed actions and moves
  • The batteries are pretty pricey, at roughly $150 each

The Breeze 4K by Yuneec is definitely one of the best drones on the market, and for all that you are getting, the price of $500 is practically a steal.
